An Asus Prime Z790 was posted to us for repair.
Our customer stated that it was a new home build, and upon the first power up there was a nasty burning smell. Our customer also stated that they think they connected the CPU power from the power supply incorrectly.
On inspecting the motherboard, the 12-volt trace on the rear of the CPU power supply connector was badly burnt.
A simple fix by removing the remnants of the old trace, digging out the carbonised burnt layer, running a calibrated jump-wire in its place, and finally insulating and sealing the wire.
One fixed-up rather expensive motherboard.
