Just a small amount went in resulting in no picture or backlight on the screen. On inspection juice and burn marks were seen on the FPC LCD connector on the screen’s Tcon board ( the screens on these have a small logic board called the Tcon ) .
On disconnecting the screen the connector board side was completely wrecked and fell apart.
We cleaned up the connector pads on the board, removed a small short, took a replacement FPC connector from a similar broken screen, soldered it on and we’ve got a fully working screen again.
All at a fraction of the cost that Apple had quoted at just shy of a thousand pounds. Better for your pocket and better for the environment.
