On examining the logic board, a small amount of corrosion was observed around the system clock area.
On removing the affected components, under the capacitor one of the pads was burnt away. It was necessary to take power by running a small jumper wire from the same circuit to the capacitor.
All components replaced, and we have a happy, healthy MacBook again.
